Seahawks sign Perrish Cox for cornerback depth

The team also announced that corner Walter Thurmond has been officially suspended by the NFL for four games, making him unavailable for Monday night's big matchup against the New Orleans Saints at CenturyLink Field. Thurmond will be able to return to the Seahawks on Dec. 23, after Seattle's game against the Arizona Cardinals, for Seattle's final regular season contest and the playoffs.

Cox takes Thurmond's place on Seattle's active roster.

Seemingly on the brink of losing two of their best cornerbacks, the Seahawks are set to sign Authentic Logan Thomas Jersey former 49ers corner Perrish Cox if he passes a physical Tuesday, according to ESPN.

Cox, 26, was reportedly in Renton on Tuesday to work out for the team, which appears to be losing cornerbacks Brandon Women's Logan Thomas Jersey Browner and Walter Thurmond to suspensions under the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Browner, who already is sidelined with a groin injury and wasn't expected back until mid December, reportedly faces a yearlong suspension and has likely seen his last day in a Seahawks uniform. Thurmond may be suspended four games, likely starting after the "Monday Night Football" matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 2 at CenturyLink Field, with a potential return for the playoffs.

Both players allegedly failed drug tests but not for performance enhancing drugs, leading many football followers to suspect they were busted for marijuana use though that has not been confirmed.

The Seahawks are widely expected to sign another cornerback, or two, to account for the impending losses of Browner and Thurmond. In addition to Cox, the team is linked to longtime Seattle cornerback Marcus Trufant and 14 year veteran Antoine Winfield, neither of whom has played in the 2013 regular season.

Cox was released by the 49ers earlier this month to make room for returning linebacker Nick Moody. In nine games this season, Cox tallied John Brown Authentic Jersey two tackles and recovered one fumble as a third string backup for starting corners Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown.

A fifth round pick out of Oklahoma State in the 2010 NFL Draft, Cox debuted as a rookie starter for the Denver Broncos in 2010, when he had 56 total tackles, defended 14 passes, forced two fumbles and snagged one interception. He missed the 2011 NFL season after being charged with sexual assault; he faced a possible life sentence, but was found not guilty in March 2012 in a Colorado court.

San Francisco signed Cox that offseason and he made the active roster, playing in 18 games for the Niners last year but not appearing in the Super Bowl. In 2012, he recorded 13 tackles and two www.nflcardinalsofficialshop.com/John_Brown_Jersey_Cardinals passes defended.

ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported that the Seahawks are considering placing Browner on the injured reserve, effectively ending his season.

A key member of Seattle's "Legion of Boom" secondary, Browner will be a free agent after this season and was expected to get a lot of attention from other NFL teams. But with a possible yearlong suspension hanging over his head, his chances to sign a big contract or even remain in the NFL now appear to be in dire jeopardy.

Seattle also has two cornerbacks within the organization who could be available for promotion.

On Monday, head coach Pete Carroll said practice squad member DeShawn Shead fits well into the Seahawks' system and has shown promise. Meanwhile, rookie corner Tharold Simon a fifth round pick out of LSU in the 2013 draft was already expected to return to practice this week after spending the season up to this point on Seattle's physically unable to perform (PUP) reserve.

If the Seahawks don't sign Cox or, perhaps, even if they do they may turn to Winfield or Trufant, both of whom are on the old side for the NFL. Trufant, 32, played 10 years for the Seahawks including last season, when he was a backup and played mainly nickelback. Winfield, 36, is a three time Pro Bowler who joined the Seahawks for 2013 training camp and the preseason, but decided to retire when he didn't make Seattle's active roster.
