Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been accused of a "brutal" and "senseless" double murder by prosecutors.
The 24 year old has pleaded not guilty to the deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, who died in the early hours of July 16 2012 after they were shot following a disagreement at a nightclub.
The two immigrants from Cape Verde are alleged to have been shot by Hernandez after leaving Cure nightclub in Boston, Massachusetts following an argument over a spilled drink earlier that evening.
Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said: "These homicides were as brutal as they were senseless.
"[De Abreu and Furtado] were out for a good time. They had no idea this was coming."
Hernandez, who is currently in jail awaiting trial for allegedly orchestrating the murder of Odin Lloyd last year, has denied accusations that he fired the bullets that killed Chris Canty Elite Jersey De Abreu, 28 and Furtado, 29 and injured a third.
The former Patriots star's attorney Charles Rankin said: "This is not supposed to be a spectacle, this is not supposed to be a sporting contest.
"We don't ask to be treated differently. Just give us a fair trial, not one tainted by unfair, one sided, unnecessary, prejudicial offerings."
The case was considered unsolved for months before it was reopened following the murder of Lloyd, a semi professional NFL player dating Hernandez's fiance's sister, last summer.
There was speculation that Lloyd, who was shot dead near Chris Canty Jersey Hernandez's apartment, had information about the double murder.
